Mentoring Program

Request a Mentor  |  Volunteer as a Mentor

Seasoned researchers are available to help with submissions through the ASSETS Mentoring Program. New authors may receive advice on submissions in any of the submission categories provided by ASSETS. Although we cannot guarantee that your submission will be accepted by ASSETS, most individuals who have used the mentoring service at ASSETS or CHI (where it began) have reported positive experiences and an improved understanding of what is required by reviewers.

If you think you would benefit from mentoring because (i) you are new to presenting your research, (ii) new to category you are interested in submitting or (iii) simply find preparing English language papers foreign to your prior experience, please consider applying for mentoring help. Use the form below to make your request by the dates below:

Important Dates

Submission Schedule
Date Description
February 27, 2009 Deadline for authors to request mentors and for mentors to volunteer.
March 2, 2009

Authors and mentors will be matched together.

In order to establish the link between authors and mentors, we suggest that at this point the authors should send a very short (2-3 page) outline of the paper. The main purpose is so that the mentor will know what to expect, and we would not necessarily expect the mentor to feed back any comments on this outline – unless they thought they spotted any serious problems at this stage. Note authors: this implies that you should have such an outline prepared in advance, ready to send.

March 15, 2009 First draft to mentor.
April 12, 2009 Mentor's comments back to authors.
May 3, 2009 Final draft to mentor. At this stage it is to be hoped that the final check will be a cursory one, that at most the mentor will have only minor corrections to feed back.
May 10, 2009 Conference submission.
