Doctoral Consortium
Proposals
Considerations of submissions to the Doctoral Consortium of the ASSETS 2005 conference are based on the merit of a submitted proposal packet containing four items:
- Cover letter
- Two-page research summary (prepared in accordance with SIGCHI Publication Format)
- Letter of recommendation from your graduate (dissertation) advisor
- The applicant’s CV
Doctoral Consortium proposals will not have accompanying papers published in the conference proceedings. To be considered for inclusion in the technical program, the two-page research summary must, however, also adhere to the SIGCHI Conference Publication Format. For details on the conference publications format, please refer to: ( http://www.sigchi.org/chipubform/). Maximum length for the Research Summary is two pages.
Review Criteria. The Doctoral Consortium review committee will select participants based on their anticipated contribution to the Consortium objectives. Participants typically have settled on their thesis directions and had their research proposal accepted by their thesis committee. Students will be selected based on clarity and completeness of the submission packet, relevance of their research area with respect to the focus of the ASSETS Conference, stage of research, letter of recommendation, and evidence of promise towards a successful research and academic career, such as published papers or technical reports.
Award. The Doctoral Consortium review committee will select one participant to receive the Best Doctoral Candidate Award. The winner will be invited to present his/her work during the closing plenary of the ASSETS 2005 Conference.
Where, What and When for Doctoral Consortium Proposals
You are invited to assemble your complete proposal packet in electronic form and submit it via email (to
jacko@isye.gatech.edu) as four separate PDF files: 1) Cover Letter; 2) Two-page Research Summary; 3) Letter of Recommendation; and 4) CV. Submissions are due May 21, 2005.
All submissions must be in English. Submissions will not be considered if they arrive after the deadline. Your submission should not contain any proprietary or confidential material. Responsibility for permissions to use video, audio, or pictures with identifiable people rests with you, not with the ASSETS 2005 Doctoral Consortium.
